Why I’m Voting in 2024 – And Why You Should Too

I reached a milestone this year, I turned 18 before the 2024 election. This has been an exciting moment in my life, I can finally vote for the first time. I am so excited to have the power to contribute to politics and be able to influence the outcome of the election. I want to use BCKC as a platform to also remind and encourage others to vote as well. I strongly believe that voting isn’t just a privilege, but it’s also an important responsibility and a right that many people have strongly fought for throughout history.

Our right to vote didn’t come easily. For decades, activists and everyday people worked to ensure that every voice could be heard at the ballot box. People like Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King Jr., and many other heroes fought for the inclusion of every citizen. Their struggle was for a fundamental belief—that every person’s voice deserves to be counted. When someone is stepping into the voting booth, not only are the voting, but they are honoring the hard work of activists who fought for us to be standing there.

But its important to remember that voting is more than just honoring the past; it’s also about building the future. Every time we vote, we have a direct say in issues that impact our lives, like education, healthcare, climate change, and economic opportunity. For generation z, who turned 18, we need to fight for our future!

OUR VOTES CAN MAKE A FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE!

When we choose not to vote, we’re giving up our power to influence these decisions. By casting my vote, I’m making sure my voice is heard on the issues that matter to me, my friends, and my community.

I know it’s easy to feel like one vote doesn’t make a difference. But when millions of people think that way, we miss out on creating real change. Every vote builds momentum, and when we all show up, we amplify our voices and ensure that elected leaders represent what we care about. Voting is how we hold leaders accountable and push for policies that shape a future we want to see.

This year, I’m excited to take part in the election, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Let’s use our voices, honor those who fought for our right to vote, and make a difference in our communities and our country. The future is in our hands—let’s make it one we’re proud of.
